A day after a massive demonstration in the heart of the capital on Saturday, the capital’s police and the army had deployed reinforcements and deployed heavy weapons in a massive operation to maintain order.
The protests have also claimed at least 23 lives, mostly students, in what has been a bloody week for the government, with demonstrators clashing with the police.
In Delhi, protesters had been staging demonstrations for days in the capital demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but Saturday’s demonstration was the first major one in the city in a year.
The government says the protests are illegal and that they are provoking communal riots.
The police has not issued any statement on Saturday.
Protesters have taken to the streets in a bid to protest against the government’s decision to withdraw Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes from circulation.
Demonstrators had earlier blocked the roads and railway tracks leading to the capital, with police saying they were trying to quell unrest.
